Belly Scar #2

Spencer had surgery on his belly this past Wednesday. Again. He was put under anesthesia. Again. Put on a ventillator. Again. Intibated. Again. Extabated. Again. Given demerol for the restlessness. Again.

And recovered just fine. Again. Yeah!

We took Spencer to the new children's hospital in Mesa for his surgery early, EARLY morning on Wednesday. They have a giant (and I mean giant) chess set. For him, it was life-size. He was so cute carrying around the bishop, the castle and occasionally the queen around the waiting room. He had no idea what was in store. . . I think he was most excited about having alone time to play. He and Sophia are never separated. We do our best to have one on one time with the littles, but it's hard.

Anyhooooo. They called us back. Tried to get vitals on a screaming two-year-old, who just figured out that no matter how loud they played "Bolt" on the flatscreen T.V. in the hospital room, something bad was about to happen.

We shut the door to his room to minimize the screaming. The nurse's station was right outside and we know that they had had enough. His surgery wasn't scheduled for another hour. Eventually, one of the very friendly and compassionate nurses brought out a car and we walked him around the hallways for the next hour, waiting for the nurse to come and get us and say "the Doctor is ready."

Then they took control of the car. And headed for the operating room. And took our baby in for another surgery. We were very kindly escorted to the waiting room where we were able to watch Good Morning Arizona or Sponge Bob. I would rather stick a pencil in my eyeball, so I opted for GMA. I had previously tried to get on facebook in the "Family Media Center" but for some reason, that site was blocked. I was stuck. Watching some wanna be reporter telll me (vegetarian) how to make a stupendous turkey chili dish with all the leftovers.

About an hour and a half went by and our doctor came in and told us that everything went as planned and there were no complications. Yippie. We were taken back to see our baby coming out of the anesthesia. He had no clue. Totally out of it. They gave him Demerol as a "restart." And after an hour or so it worked and we were given our discharge papers and shown the door.

Spencer came home and slept for a couple hours on the couch. During the surgery, they gave him an epidural-type-thingy that made his legs, well, not work so well. He would try and stand but then he would fall over. He was getting very frustrated but after an hour or so, he was back to normal.

Wearing high heeled princess shoes and running all over the place. Cheers to our little fighter. And please, please, PLEASE, let there be no more surgeries, hospital stays, ER visits or anything of that nature for Spencer. He's done his time.

I am so happy that he is doing well. Much much much love to him and to you and Jim for going through this hell. Once again proof of what a strong woman...mother you are.
